Update on Ayot St Peter history and pictures

I recently discovered that there is an new site for the parish of Ayot St Peter which includes a number of interesting local history pages, which are planned to expand with time.

I have used the event to celebrate by upgrading my own Ayot Green and St Peter page, and introducing a new page for the church. As a result all the old postcard views (1 dozen of them - 2 of which are new to my site)  now expand to a 1024 pixel wide (or high) image if clicked.

This is part of my plans in preparing the whole site for archive and if you are interested in any Hertfordshire village (or part of a town) and would like me to add large images from my own computer (but which I have not yet made available online) please let me know and I will give your suggested village priority in what is a long queue of potential upgrades.

In addition any corrections, new or updated links to other village, town, or society sites will be help me ensure that the final archive is of maximum value.

A Great Site for Ayot St Peter

Places
When I started this web site in its present form in 2001 you could search for local history information on the smaller Hertfordshire villages and come up with nothing. Things have changed and there is no way I can monitor every place in Hertfordshire for new information. I am always happy to learn of a good local history site which mean I can sit back and simply say - go and look at this site - because it has far more information than I could possible provide.

Ayot St Peter
I was therefore delighted when Valerie sent me a link toWeb the Ayot St Peter site with a treasure trove of information - and I have added the link to my Ayot St Peter page

If you know of similar web sites relating to a place in Hertfordshire which I have overlooked please let me know - so I can add a helpful link.

Have you got a real brick wall that is falling down?

Some of you will know, from exploring my web site, that I have done a lot of research into St Albans brickmakers - and I am always interested to hear about buildings which are built with bricks from Jacob Reynolds' brick works on Bernards Heath which can be identified by the letters "J R" on the frog.

Other bricks had different markings. 100 years ago this year J Fenwick Owen took over the brickworks at Digswell Hill, Ayot Green.  These bricks were marked with the word "AYOT" and I have just had a request to find one that is clearly marked. So do you have a brick wall made of AYOT bricks which is falling down as I know someone who wants one. Alternatively do you know of a dealer in second hand bricks (often used when building work is done in heritage areas where the new brickwork need to look old)?
